On 21 November, night time had already fallen on Kinshasa for a number of hours when Victor Wakwenda pushed open the door of one of many cells in pavilion 8 at Makala jail. The outdated man is drained. Just a few hours earlier, he was arrested, interrogated and delivered to the detention centre.
With years of political wrestle below his belt, he can not rely the variety of tense protest actions through which he has participated, however that is the primary time he has been thrown into jail like this. “Lord Jesus, what have I completed to deserve this?” he repeats incessantly.
